Sunday Catch Up

Well look at that. I haven't completely abandoned the Every Day Matters project. It's Sunday afternoon, I'm catching up with Google reader (which, I highly recommend to anyone who doesn't have it yet. Shameless plug: add me to your reader), and drinking espresso, a dangerous and rare event.

Here's a little bit about what's going on with me: no, I'm not moving to Mexico. I hate that I was "that person" who says all this stuff and didn't follow through. I hate those people! Although we had a fabulous time in Mexico it wasn't practical to move there. The plans that have not changed is that I am still inspired to follow my dreams and be happy. For the past two months I have been job-searching like a mad woman and turned down several not-so-enticing-but-decent positions to ensure that I would chose something that would ultimately lead me down a satisfying path.

I snatched a two-month contract position at an ad agency in Houston. I start tomorrow and am both nervous and excited about the next two months. They told me they would love the bring me on as a permanent employee later as long as they can survive in the economy. If it works out, great, if not, okay. I'm just excited to get a little more relevant experience under my belt.

How was your weekend? Mine was fab-u-lous. Lots of New Orleans stuff to come...

It's Official! Paris.

A couple days ago I bought a plane ticket to Paris. It was such a liberating feeling to purchase this with my own money and know that this experience will enrich my life. I know it sounds cheesy, but there really isn't any other way to describe it without sounding like a complete lame-o. I've never been overseas and I am beyond excited.

Jon and I are going to visit his former foreign exchange student and friend, Arthur, who just visited him/us earlier this Summer (pictures from his departure here). The trip is less than two months away and I cannot wait to experience the food, people, art, and architecture, all the things that make it the number one destination in the world.

For my birthday, Jon's parents got me the Moleskine Paris City Notebook, which I've already started jotting down places to I hope to visit. I can tell this baby will come in handy with all the maps and blank pages to write down the food, people and places I will encounter. It looks like it will last me a few trips across the pond. Does anyone have any suggestions beyond the usual tourist attractions?

I was feeling pretty uninspired, so I was looking for a list of things to draw. I found this group called Every Day Matters, and everyone in the group draws the same thing for a year or something? The "challenge" happened last year, but it's a nice long list and I'm going to start doing it. Join me? I'll start tagging them "Every Day Matters."

I've been really getting into this Moleskine business. I'm trying to force myself to draw something new every day.. I'll post those soon. For now, I want everyone to check out Susan Rudat's blog and see her illustrations. I noticed her amazing work on skineart.com and she happens to be living in Wimberly, Texas. The Hill Country is evident in a lot of her work. My favorites are the ones that involve the river and knotty trees-- definitely what I miss most about that San Marcos.

Get'chr Moleskines

After seeing entries from other peoples' Moleskine journals, I'm totally ashamed of the crap-crap I've been scribbling into my own. I need to remember to take my time, use color and focus on the details that make illustrations so charming. I found these at skineart.com, the first is by Mattias Adolfsson and the second, Jeff Dekal.

In other Moleskine news, I'm looking forward to purchasing one of the city guides, perhaps for... Paris? Oui oui! We'll see.
