While BF and I were apartment hunting last weekend (Houston, Seattle, Chicago? Where am I going to live in six weeks????), we came across the adorable Sugar Babies Cupcake Boutique. Okay, so the uber-girly decor may nauseate your male companion, but you can get the cupcakes to-go!

You must check it out if you're in the Kirby/Montrose Area. It's also next to a fantastic design shop with plenty of stationery goodies that will tug on your letterpressed heart strings.

The talented woman behind The Butter Flying found me via Oh Joy, and I'm happy she did. Her paper jellyfish made my black heart melt just a little bit. Sylvie B. is a Montreal-based artist who cuts paper with the best of them. Lucky for you, you don't have the be in Canada to get a hold of her work. Visit her Etsy shop for her latest nature-inspired creations.

Wrap it Up

Hey-O. Christmas is over. Was yours good? Mine was great. Did the three Christmases thing and it went smoothly. Got to see tons of family, eat tons of goodies and get home at a decent hour so I could chill the eff out.

Just wanted to make a quick post about this bow-thing -- I saw it on some blog (don't remember) but it's obviously a recycled Target bag. Fun and silly.. just like my nephew Carter.

Crane Tree

Last weekend I found a baby Christmas tree in the trunk of my car. I wish I'd be lying when I say it's been shoved in there for over year and I had completely forgotten about it.

Instead of buying new ornaments and things,-- I'm trying to own less stuff --I made a bunch of white paper cranes and pipe cleaner snowflakes.

Hard to Pick...

My fascination with calendars has grown over the past few months, as I've been studying type and spending too much time on the design*sponge.

It could be argued that with the utility of cell phones, computers we don't NEED paper calendars, but I always like to have one for shits and gigs. Plus, it's always satisfying for me physically X-out days when I'm counting down to a special occasion.

Ummm.. cute. Made this little papercraft monkey yesterday. More here..The sad seal and racing bunnies are pretty adoreable too. I wanted to make all of them but I decided it wouldn't be the best use of company time or any free time for a 23-year old. Can't stop me on a rainy day.

I hate the word craft. I think of stenciled country-cute white trash crap. Today's "cool" crafts are now called DIY projects.. GRROOD NEWS: Sew Crafty is Houston's first craft studio and sewing lounge and it's opening this weekend. Finally.. sewing classes in Houston that don't aren't taught by 70-year women. (I snagged the image above from their website).

The grand opening will offer free sewing and craft classes. I doubt I'll make it down there, but I do look forward to eventually going to a Gocco class. Gocco is a Japanese form of printing that I had no idea even existed until yesterday.

Such a Travel-sty!

Last week I set aside some vacation time for next week. I've been so excited to go on a spontanious vacay. This morning, when the specials were released, I realized how much they SUCKED. I'm effing ready to get some stamps in my passport, yeah?

Did find this cute cover on Etsy from stiksl. This shop has tons of cool graphic passport covers that will make all the patent-leather-passport-cover-carrying fools envious. If I don't go anywhere this weekend, I'll sit at home and make my own.

Okay, that's a little grumpy. There's still a chance we're headed somewhere...it could be to see Radiohead?! ha!

Inspi'ad

I found this image (left) of an art installation, saved it yesterday, but for the life me cannot remember where I stole it from or who did it. So, obviously there is some artist out there who deserves some cred for being the inspiration for my Mother's Day card.

My mom is going to Minnesota this Mother's Day and she'll be away from her kiddies for the first time, so we're doing celebrating the holiday tomorrow. Sidestory: I started sewing her a little tote, but I cleverly (ahem..accidently) sewed the handles between the lining and the outside of the bag. So, today I'll start all over, hopefully with better results.

P.S. It's a vase of flowers, not golf clubs!

Paper Cuts

There are some really cool things you can do with an X-ACTO knife. Jon showed me these pieces by Peter Callasen. I think making something like this would be really relaxing. Just you and the knife. It's insane that something so intricate comes from one piece of paper. If you look at some of the other works on his website, you can just imagine how much planning it takes to construct 3-D models from a paper and have the scraps remain as a part of the art.

I have a slammin' X-ACTO knife set at work (15 blades, what what?) and all I've been doing is cutting out squares. I'm going to try something like this.. we'll see what happens. Thanks for Jon, my informal contributing editor, for showing this to me:)

Papercraft Calendario

So, I know we're a fourth through the year (eek!..time flies), but it's never too late to have calendar that will help you brush up on your preferred language days-of-the-week and months.

You can go here and generate your very own dodecahedron calendar. I printed my spanish calendar on bright green vellum and it's my favorite thing in my office. I apologize for the blurry picture-- camera phones kinda stink.

Kate knows Poppy

I was browsing through Swoozie's in Sugar Land yesterday and I got sidetracked by Crane & Co's Kate Spade stationary. Swoozie's had a limited selection and upon further (online) obesessing, I found these yummy Poppy invitations. Although these are pretty universal, the lady has a cheecky little card for every occasion.
