Perfect Pear

It's times like these that I miss Bluepring Magazine. During any down-time at work, I've been slightly panicking, listing all the things I need to do before we have our guests over. I'd love to have a beautiful table setting and fresh flowers, but that's just not going to happen today. I found this pear place setting the perfect solution for a simple setting.

Frexican Fiesta!

A French/Mexican party for Jon's friend ( and now mine too!), Arthur, who after visiting Texas for a month, departed for France yesterday. A Frexican party is not complete without fajitas, cinnamon and cayenne spiced sangria, trifles, moustaches, margaritas, cocktail umbrellas, dos equis, Camus and of course great people!

We threw together the theme a night before the the bash and made the beautiful Frexican sign....a group effort enjoyed with Fat Tire.

Dots

Yesterday we had brunch at Starlite, a swanky little joint in Austin's warehouse district. Food: excellent. Service:so-so. I had some bitchin' eggs benedict. They seemed short-handed, so I'd definitely go back some time.

Our table was directly under this sparkly chandelier and cool piece of art that looks like it was created with stolen paint samples from Home Depot. It's a neat idea... and I want to give it a try, but not use a depressed little girl's face.

French Food

This morning I woke up from a serious food coma. I had to skip breakfast because I was still full from the night before.

Jon and Arthur (his friend visiting from France) made the most delicious meal last night, a recipe from Arthur's Father. I enjoyed watching them teach each other cooking vocabulary from their respective languages and while I randomly interjected incorrect Spanish.

They made the entire meal from scratch-- creamy shallot and scallop chowder over a pastry shell, chicken with maple syrup dressing and fried potatoes with creamy chive dressing. For dessert, warm crepes filled with bananas, vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate. Oh yeah, I had five different kinds of stinky cheese before we started eating. Thanks, Whole Foods.

I asked Arthur if he ate like that every night in France and why he wasn't a fat lump. He informed me that he does eat like that often, but the French do not go home after work, take their pants off and watch TV.

Give me a break, It's effin' hot outside in Texas, how can you not come home and take your pants off?

Place Your Orders Now!

Yay!! Cynthia Rowley is Designing for Target again. Her newest collection, Whim will be hitting stores any day now. It's a bold array of over 500 items-- pinks and blues, but doesn't leave out classic things like this modern serving tray. And $10 for a stainless steel serving tray, count me in. I want a house for fabulous backyard get-togethers. This dark apartment just ain't cuttin' it any mo.

Kate knows Poppy

I was browsing through Swoozie's in Sugar Land yesterday and I got sidetracked by Crane & Co's Kate Spade stationary. Swoozie's had a limited selection and upon further (online) obesessing, I found these yummy Poppy invitations. Although these are pretty universal, the lady has a cheecky little card for every occasion.

OK, also dying over these sassy, quip thank you cards. The print is hardly legible from this picture but each card reads:

it's perfect
you shouldn't have but i'm glad you did
how did you know?
you've done it again

loving it.
